Environmental Remediation and Total Demolition Overview
The Allen Steam Plant Precipitator 3 project included abatement and removal of Precipitator 3, including:
- Removal of asbestos-containing insulation
- Chemically stripped lead primer paint
- Removal of non-structural components, including: flue walls, floors, hoppers, transformers, baffles, control panels, cables and conduit, discharge and collection assemblies, stiffeners, and rectifiers
- Dismantling idle precipitator to concrete pedestal footings
- Decommissioned precipitator 3 while active precipitator in proximity remained in service
Structural steel supports, bracing, and all in-service utilities remained intact and uninterrupted. The project was completed ahead of schedule, saving the owner 10 percent of the original time and material cost estimate.
